Philips acquires AmpLight™

Tuesday, July 13th, 2010

Amplex A/S announced today that Royal Philips Electronics will acquire its AmpLight™ streetlight management activities. The AmpLight™ solution will become part of the Lighting Electronics business within the Philips Lighting sector.

The AmpLight™ solution operates streetlight systems throughout the world. With the ability to decrease streetlight energy consumption by up to 35 percent, the AmpLight™ solution offers exciting possibilities for any city that focuses on energy efficiency. With this acquisition, Philips will further enhance its focus on innovative solutions for integral energy management solutions.

“We are pleased that Philips, as a global leader within outdoor lighting, recognizes the potential of this proven and advanced solution”, says Jens Hørup Jensen, CEO of Amplex A/S. “We consider this acquistion an acknowledgement of the Amplex technology platform, which our other Smart Grid applications are built on.”

In December 2009, Amplex-developed technology received another seal of approval when Boeing and Amplex entered into a teaming agreement for the U.S. market.

Amplex will now concentrate its efforts on its Smart Grid and water leakage solutions, StartGrid and WaterWise. Both systems operate on the same technology platform as the AmpLight™ solution, and focus on detecting leaks and optimizing operations of low-voltage and water networks.
